In the clear waters of the Adriatic on Pelješac peninsula, just an hour drive from the historic city of Dubrovnik, lies a treasure trove for wine enthusiasts – the unique concept of underwater vinery, home to the exquisite Edivo wines. This innovative approach to wine aging, nestled within the serene depths of the sea, not only enhances the wine’s flavour but also adds a mysterious allure to each bottle. The Edivo vinery has captured the imagination of wine lovers worldwide, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking an unparalleled wine-tasting experience.
Edivo Vina in Croatia has revolutionized the concept of wine aging by submerging their bottles in the Adriatic Sea, encased in traditional amphorae. This method is inspired by ancient Roman wine storage techniques where amphoras are submerged at depths of 18-25 meters for over 700 days. This approach not only preserves the wine but also infuses it with a unique sea-salt tinge, creating a product rich in history and flavour.
For those who are certified divers, Edivo offers a thrilling scuba diving experience; a dive to the winery located at a depth of 14 meters in a sunken sailing ship near Drače on the Pelješac peninsula. All dives are supervised and include a professional instructor, ensuring safety and an informative experience. Divers get to see the underwater cellar and the amphorae firsthand.
After the underwater adventure, guests can enjoy a wine tasting session at the Edivo Wine Bar. Here, they will taste wines that carry the distinct flavors developed through underwater aging.
