Chamber Music Festival “Stradun Classic” – Träume

Marija Pavlović, Croatian clarinetist and Stradun Classic festival director, curates unique themed programs in Dubrovnik. She combines popular and lesser-known chamber works, featuring international artists and Croatian composers. This approach promotes local culture while fostering global collaboration in music.

TRÄUME

Wagner’s Wesendoncklieder, based on Mathilde Von Wesendonck’s poems, reflects their intense affair during his exile. The final song, Träume, captures their relationship’s passion. Brahms’ 3rd Piano Quartet references Goethe’s “Sturm und Drang” novel, echoing his unrequited love for Clara Schumann through the “Clara Theme”. Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel” portrays a medieval trickster’s adventures. The recurring Till-theme after his execution suggests the story might be a dream.
