Exhibition Opening: “The History of the Dubrovnik Tramway”

To mark 115 years since the introduction of the Dubrovnik tram and 55 years since its closure, the Dubrovnik Museums are organising the opening of the exhibition The History of the Dubrovnik Tramway from 1910 to 1970 on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 21.00 in the Rector’s Palace. Curated by Dino Lokas, Tonko Marunčić, and Jan Mark Novalija, the exhibition traces the tram’s history from the arrival of the first motor cars and trailers in 1910 to the tragic accident that led to its shutdown in 1970. Visitors will see objects from the museum’s collection alongside archival documents, photographs, postcards, and equipment from private collectors, with a special section dedicated to the restoration of an original tram car and trailer. A richly illustrated catalogue and new themed souvenirs accompany the exhibition, which will remain open until March 31, 2026, celebrating the legacy of Dubrovnik’s “travanj”—the first and only tramway ever to operate in Dalmatia.
