The first drama premiere of the summer will be a collaboration between the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and the Marin Držić Theatre. Director Paolo Tišljarić will stage Carlo Goldoni’s iconic play, “La Bottega del Caffè,” translated and adapted by Frano Čale into the Dubrovnik dialect, at Držić Square. “La Bottega,” directed by Tomislav Radić, originally premiered at the Festival in 1978 at Gundulić Square and remained in the repertoire for a decade. Despite being set in a specific historical context, the production will focus on its relevance today, highlighting the vitality of comedy, irony, wit, and the manipulation of information. It will also explore contemporary attitudes towards virtues and flaws subtly portrayed by the author, as well as the mechanisms that govern social dynamics.
