Theatre play: Mara & Kata

Radio Dubrovnik’s popular show At Home With the Gossipmongers began in the 1960s, emptying Dubrovnik’s streets during broadcasts. Characters Kata, Mara, and Uncle Pero discussed city events through local small talk. The play Mara & Kata, inspired by this show and Desa Begović Mrkušić’s book, explores Dubrovnik’s mentality and history. It jumps between 2020, 2000, and the future, offering a bitter-sweet look at the city’s character and memories.

Nataša Dangubić and Doris Šarić-Kukuljica lead an absurd journey through Dubrovnik from the late 1990s to today, as the city faces an uncertain future. This theatre project examines memory’s role in creating new theatrical acts, starting where the original radio show ended.
