The Dubrovnik Winter Festival is the city’s annual celebration of the holiday season, transforming historic Dubrovnik into a sparkling winter wonderland from late November through early January, bringing light, music, festive events, and local flavours to the most spectacualr city at the Croatian coast.

The festival combines concerts, cultural programmes, family activities, gastronomy, and festive traditions across several neighbourhoods, from the Old Town’s iconic Stradun to Lazareti, Lapad, Gruž and Mokošica. More than 1,000 holiday lights and decorations dress the streets, squares and waterfront in seasonal cheer, creating a unique holiday atmosphere.
The festival kicks off with a festive lighting of the Advent wreath and a concert on Stradun, Dubrovnik’s main street, marking the official start of Advent in the city.

Over a thousand lights turn Dubrovnik’s ancient stone and streets into a glowing backdrop perfect for evening strolls and photo moments. The festival mascot (Medo the Bear) and his cheerful elves wander the city, bringing smiles to children and adults alike.
Family favourites like the North Pole Station and open-air ice skating returns each year, offering fun for kids and winter lovers.
Dubrovnik’s famous street becomes one of Europe’s most beautiful winter stages with various concerts and performances throughout December and into January. The festival programme is rich and varied, featuring both local and regional artists, children’s shows and activities, workshops, exhibitions, and community events across neighbourhood hubs, especially interesting are the events and workshops curated by Dubrovnik’s museums and galleries.

In 2025, the Winter Festival on Stradun shifts its focus to local restaurants, that take centre stage with special holiday menus and traditional Dalmatian dishes. Instead of the usual rows of festive stalls, visitors are encouraged to experience the season through Dubrovnik’s restaurants, creating a more authentic and relaxed dining atmosphere in the heart of the Old City.
Festive booths and food stands can still be found elsewhere, serving winter favourites like mulled wine, prikle (mini doughnuts) cod dishes, sausages etc., particularly at theb Gundulić Square, Brsalje (Pile Gate) and in Gruž.
One of the festival’s biggest highlights is the New Year’s Eve celebration on Stradun, a free concert party that welcomes the new year under the stars with music, fireworks and community energy.
In short, Dubrovnik Winter Festival is more than an event, it’s a month-long city transformation where historic streets, festive lights, concerts, family attractions and local culture come together to make winter in Dubrovnik truly memorable.
