The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc was established immediately following the conclusion of World War II, on May 26, 1945. Throughout its history, the orchestra has been fortunate to have the participation of prominent figures from the Czech and international music scenes in its artistic development. Notable conductors such as Otto Klemperer and Václav Neumann, violinists Josef Suk and Gidon Kremer, and cellist Pierre Fournier have all been involved. Over time, the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc has cultivated a diverse and extensive repertoire. While it primarily focuses on the works of renowned composers from the 19th and 20th centuries, it also actively promotes contemporary Czech and international music, evident in its performance of over 250 new compositions. Additionally, the orchestra is recognized for its authentic interpretation of Czech national music classics by composers such as Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček, and Bohuslav Martinů.
The Moravian Philharmonic has an impressive discography and regularly performs at major music festivals both domestically and internationally. Beyond its musical accomplishments, the orchestra holds a vital role as a cultural institution that significantly contributes to the organization and enrichment of artistic and concert life in Olomouc and the surrounding regions. It plays an integral part in fostering a vibrant arts community.
